Nature and Wildlife
Walking, Hiking and Biking
The hamlet Krize is a special place for
walking.
The peaks within two or three miles are higher than Snowdon or
Table Mountain and one can walk for miles above an altitude of 1,000m.
In summer at this height the weather is warm, the air clean
and scented with meadow flowers and forest resins.
Krize lies between two major walking paths E3 and E8 that run the length of Europe.
Some of the walks are also suitable for mountain bikes.

Bird Watching
Krize is a very good place for
bird watching.
The unspoilt forests around Krize and the variety of trees provide a favourite habitat for many birds.
Close to Krize the walking path E3 goes through pine woods, E8 goes through beech woods and
together they go through oak woods.

Water Sports
Rafting
About an hour's drive towards the High Tatras is a deep gorge
with the fast flowing river Dunajec which is used for
white-water rafting
in spring when it is full with melting snow.
Later in the year, especially further downstream where the river is calmer,
more traditional log rafts are used for pleasure rides.
Canoeing and Kayaking
The Dunajec is also ideal for canoeing and kayaking. Canoes and kayaks are available for hire, as are instructors for all levels of experience.
Slovakia was the most successful nation in this sport at the last Olympic Games
in Athens with two golds and one silver, and had similar success in the previous two Games.
Swimming
Summers are hotter than in England and
swimming pools
are more popular, often set in very pleasant surroundings.
There are also thermal springs used for swimming from spring to autumn,
as well as indoor leisure centres which are open all year round.
